Title: Valerian/Variation
     Teeter (Vertical)
Medium: Xerox print on paper, 3D-printed climbing stones (PLA)

A text in two parts, documents a lulling, semi-poetic conversation around slipping towards passivity in language and our individual agency. Valerian/Variation (2021) references internet science that suggests that cat-calming plug-ins actually act upon the owner, making them passive to their pets’ misbehaviour. The work also attempts to explore the possibility of tactility, touch or intimacy of words and grammar in a world that is arguably becoming dominated by artificial experiences. Alongside this, Teeter (Vertical) (2021) is composed of seven 3D-printed climbing stones that are scattered so that they may interject into or adjust (though passively) a viewer’s experience of the exhibition. Like Valerian/Variation they might also hint at a body’s presence or the tactility of the grip of a hand.
