Title: Where is Michael? Where is Niki?
Medium: Photography
Niki Colclough (Manchester, UK) & Michael Tan (Sheffield, UK/ Singapore) met in early 2021 during a Shinrin Yoku (forest bathing) guide training course, they have since embarked on an artistic collaboration and research project to explore the potential of art making within natural environments for flourishing and wellbeing purposes. Where is Michael? Where is Niki? is an outcome of the duo's creative exchanges and play-led experimentation in nature, which they are utilising to formulate methodologies for sharing their practices with the public (through workshops / events etc). The photographs in this exhibition were created in Froggatt Woods, Derbyshire as a response to their assigned brief "F". Using a set of predetermined instructions, they took it in turns to respond to the woodland environment. The work draws attention to nature's invitation for us to tune in, take notice but more importantly, the whimsical responses by the duo reminds viewers the joy and laughter that nature offers when we allow ourselves to play.
