Ride Your Pony is an artist-led annual international group exhibition and residency based in the UK. It was founded in 2017 by artist Marie Jones as a way to foster connection and play between creatives at differing levels and in varying disciplines.

Each year 26 participants from across the globe respond to a lucky dip letter of the alphabet. The brief asks participants to use their letter which they receive in the post as either an object within their work, or as a starting point for them to begin from. The 26 new works are exhibited together and participants are invited to take part in the RYP residency which takes place whilst the exhibition is on.

⚡ The RYP Ethos ⚡
Freedom to create new work that isn’t for a client.
Freedom to create without restrictions on outcome.
A chance to experiment outside usual ways of working.
Time to play.
The opportunity to exhibit and connect with others who you might not usually get a chance to.

Past RYP events have taken place in 2017 Islington Mill, Salford UK. 2018 as part of the Liverpool Independents Biennial touring to Liverpool John Moore’s University, UK. 2019 as part of the Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery UK and in 2021 at Abingdon Studios Blackpool, UK. See events above for more information about each event.

🤓 Future plans for RYP are...
To continue offering creatives a chance to make new work playfully and to connect with others around the globe.

To build a relationship with RYP alumni finding out about their career paths to help inform a younger generation about the varying possibilites from studying the arts.
